CORE Program – Colorado Springs

(Designed for youth ages 10–17 and a parent or other important adult in their life. Mentors may be available when requested.)

CORE creates intentional time for parents and youth to connect, communicate, and strengthen their relationship.

Through our PACD model—Participate, Appreciate, Communicate, and Dedicate—families develop practical tools for building trust and stronger connections.

The outdoor experiences bring families together. The relationship they build is what they take home.

More about CORE

CORE Schedule

CORE is a 12-week program offered in the spring and fall. Families meet once a week for two hours, using shared experiences and the PACD model to strengthen their relationship.

The PACD Model

Participate. Appreciate. Communicate. Dedicate.
PACD gives parents and youth a practical framework they can use during CORE and carry into their relationship at home.

Program Cost

CORE is $300 per parent-youth pair for the 12-week program.

Scholarships

We want cost to be as little of a barrier as possible. Scholarship families contribute $120 upfront, with that contribution refunded when they attend at least 10 of the 12 sessions.

What to Expect During CORE

CORE is organized into three-week learning blocks. Each block gives parents and youth opportunities to practice PACD together while building confidence through shared outdoor experiences.

Experiences vary by season and are selected to give families opportunities to learn together, communicate, encourage one another, and strengthen their relationship.

Spin Fishing

Spin fishing gives parents and youth an opportunity to learn new skills, spend intentional time together, and build confidence on the water.

Families learn the fundamentals and put those skills into practice while working together, encouraging one another, and experiencing PACD in action.

Fly Fishing

Fly fishing encourages parents and youth to slow down, develop patience, and learn together through a shared experience on the water.

As families build their skills, they also practice communication, encouragement, and persistence—creating time to connect while enjoying the outdoors together.

Fly Tying

Fly tying combines creativity, patience, and hands-on learning as parents and youth create something together from start to finish.

Families learn the basic tools and techniques, build increasingly detailed patterns, and take pride in seeing their skills—and each other’s skills—develop.

Small Bore

Small bore introduces parents and youth to responsible firearm handling in a structured environment where safety comes first.

Families develop confidence through instruction and practice while reinforcing communication, responsibility, patience, and trust.

Trap Shooting

Trap shooting challenges parents and youth to develop focus, confidence, and consistency while learning together in a safety-focused environment.

As their skills develop, families practice clear communication, encourage one another, and learn to work through both successes and challenges together.

Archery

Archery gives parents and youth an opportunity to challenge themselves while developing focus, patience, and consistency.

Families build their skills through practice and instruction, learning that progress comes from repetition, responding to feedback, and supporting one another.

Camp & Hike Survival

Camp and hike survival puts families in situations where communication, preparation, and problem-solving matter.

Parents and youth learn practical outdoor skills while working through challenges together, building confidence in themselves and greater trust in one another.

No previous experience is required. CYO provides the instruction and equipment families need to participate.
